Questions and answers

How do you play the MovieGuesser quiz?

The quiz shows a single frame from a film and four possible titles. Pick the right one before the timer runs out. The faster you answer, the more points you score.

How is a frame quiz different from an ordinary movie trivia game?

Ordinary movie trivia asks about facts: release years, directors, cast lists. Here there is only one question — do you recognise the film from a single frame. It tests how much you have watched rather than what you have memorised, so you can play with no preparation.

Is there a game like Framed where I can play more than one movie a day?

Yes — MovieGuesser. Daily frame games give you one movie a day; here you pick a category and play ten frames in a row, then move on to the next selection. You choose from four titles instead of typing, there is no sign-up to start, and you can play online against other people.

Do I need an account to play?

No. You can start as a guest straight away — your progress is kept in your browser. An account is needed to enter the leaderboard, keep your progress when you switch devices, and play online against other people.

How many points does a correct answer give?

Up to 330 points for a single frame and up to 3,300 for a round of ten. The exact number depends on how quickly you answer. A hint costs 100 points, and a wrong answer scores nothing.

What are lives and how do they come back?

You have three lives. A wrong answer or an expired timer costs one. When they run out the round ends, and all three return automatically after five minutes. A perfect round, with all ten frames guessed, earns you an extra life.

How many levels and categories are there?

Each category is ten rounds of ten frames. New categories unlock as you score — the more you have, the tougher the selections that open up.

Is the quiz free?

Yes, it is completely free and ad-free. There is nothing to install — the quiz runs right in your browser on desktop and mobile.
